Second Rough Cut

My second rough cut clearly shows the progress of my editing.
I have included some of the finer details from my plan, which has brought the clips together well and filled some of the empty space that was seen in my last rough cut. I still feel that some of the edits are too choppy, this is because there is still a small section of the narrative I have yet to include; the burning photograph. This section will also enhance the meaning of the video by improving the perception of time.

Reverse Test Footage

I decided to test my reverse footage. This helped me to establish the speed I would need to set as well as exactly where in the video it could be incorporated.

Experimental Editing

I experimented with different editing techniques such as different video filters, opacity and composite modes. The video filters were very helpful at brightening some of the darker clips and correcting the colour from the lighting in the factory. However, I feel that the other techniques I tried don’t really fit with my video and they aren’t beneficial to the video’s meaning or aesthetics.

Peer Focus Group Feedback

I am very pleased with the feedback I received.

My mise-en-scene was considered very good. The locations I used were very conventional and the costumes were stereotypical of the genre. There were a couple of gaps in the rough cut, which were mentioned, but I have already started the process of filling them in for the final video.

The actors’ performance was generally well received, with the editing being in sync. However, there were some comments about the drummer not matching at all with the music. This is a problem that I tried to work around by cutting him out of the shot as much as possible. Someone also noticed that the singer wasn't actually holding a microphone and it was in-fact a wire.

Comments about the editing and camera work were good. The editing links all the clips seamlessly although there are some choppy cuts around the gaps. I am already working in amending this. The camera movement during the performance section was very conventional and the steady shots during the narrative show good camera control.

The narrative was very easy to understand with the dark themes linking well to the genre

Photograph for Narrative

I took this photograph during the first shoot in preparation for the burning scene.
I edited it on photoshop, making it black and white and adding a metallic effect and noise.
This will hopefully aid the meaning of the narrative by showing the problematic relationship between the two actors. It will also be used to initiate the 'parallell timeline' through a clip of the photograph burning in reverse.

Further Editing

I began to ad effects to some of my clips in preparation for my second rough cut. This mainly consisted of changing the brightness and contrast of some clips and adding a black and white section. I also decided to include a black and white section with a fade into colour which took me some time to work out how it would work. I also added some new footage to the beginning of the video and filled in some of the gaps.
The gaps that remain are for a small section of the narrative section that I have left to include. I didn't intend to have so many but I decided I would have to try and draw attention away from the drummer because his performance wasn't very believable.

Rough Cut

This is the rough cut of my music video. The majority of the narrative section is included, I only have a few little things left to film which I have already planned. The performance section still needs a lot of work. I think I have filmed everything I need to for it, I just need to edit my footage and select the best takes.

Editing

These are some screenshots showing the editing process of narrative section. It didn't take as long as I had anticipated to sync the clips with the music which gave me time to create the final frame on photoshop.
